Meet the WIA Young Leaders 2026

10 Voices. One Vision for Africa.
A new generation of African women is ready to step forward.
1 October 2026

This has been an amazing process where, after more than 11,000 expressions of interest, 3,023 complete applications and candidates from over 50 African countries, WIA Philanthropy is proud to introduce the 10 women selected as WIA Young Leaders 2026.

They are joining a community that has been growing since 2021, bringing together young women from across Africa who are leading, creating, building and contributing to change in their countries and sectors.

Today, 43 women are part of the WIA Young Leaders community, working across entrepreneurship, science, technology, public policy, health, finance, agriculture, education and many other fields.

Now, 10 new voices are joining them.

The 2026 edition in numbers

The response to this year’s edition says a lot about the ambition of young women across the continent.

More than 11,000 women expressed interest in the programme.

3,023 complete applications were received and individually reviewed. And candidates came from more than 50 African countries. But there is much more behind those numbers.

These are women working in governments, NGOs, international organisations and some of Africa’s leading companies. They are entrepreneurs building their own businesses, researchers, scientists, executives and women leading teams and organisations.

Around 35% of applicants work in the public sector, NGOs or international organisations. Among private-sector candidates, some of the most represented fields were Entrepreneurship & Business Services (13%), Technology & AI (10%), Health & Life Sciences (10%) and Agriculture & Food Systems (9.5%).

And many are already leading at a significant scale: 24% of candidates lead organisations with more than 200 employees.

From these 3,023 applications, 10 women were selected.

10 Voices. One Vision for Africa.

They come from different countries. They work in different sectors. Their stories, experiences and ambitions are their own.

But they have something important in common: they believe in Africa, in what can be built here and in the role they can play in shaping what comes next.

Being selected as a WIA Young Leader is not the end of the process. It is where the journey begins.

The 2026 Young Leaders will become part of the wider WIA community, meet and learn from high-level mentors, build new connections and gain greater visibility for the work they are already doing.

And very soon, they will meet each other.

From 22 to 28 November 2026, we look forward to welcoming the WIA Young Leaders 2026 to Paris. For one week, the 10 women will come together for meetings, training, conversations and exchanges with people from different sectors and backgrounds.

It will be a chance to learn, of course. But just as importantly, it will be a chance to connect.

Because one of the most important parts of WIA Young Leaders has always been the community created around the programme — women meeting other women they may never otherwise have crossed paths with, sharing experiences and building relationships that continue long after the programme itself.

And this is only the beginning

Over the coming weeks, we want you to get to know these women beyond their names and job titles.

We will introduce each of the WIA Young Leaders 2026 individually and share their stories, the work they are doing, what drives them and what they want to contribute to Africa’s future.

Ten women with different stories, from different parts of the continent.
