DISCOVER THE NEW WIA YOUNG LEADERS 2025

We’re delighted to continue our spotlight series with Dr. Nouran Farouk, a physician, social entrepreneur, and climate advocate from Egypt. Nouran, could you tell us who you are and what you do?

I am Nouran Farouk, a physician and social entrepreneur passionate about women’s empowerment, environmental sustainability, and climate-smart innovation. I hold a Master’s degree in Internal Medicine and a Diploma in Hospital Management and Operational Excellence from the American University in Cairo.

Alongside my medical career, I co-founded Dosy Bikes in 2019 with my sister, Menna. Through our work, we aim to empower women socially and economically while promoting sustainable, climate-friendly mobility solutions across Egypt and the wider MENA region.

Tell us more about your initiative, Dosy Bikes.

Dosy Bikes is Egypt’s first tech-based platform empowering women in the micromobility sector. We combine mobility training, green job creation, and climate innovation to break barriers for women while advancing sustainable urban mobility.

Our platform trains women to ride scooters and bicycles, creates employment for female instructors and delivery riders, and promotes the adoption of electric scooters to reduce CO? emissions. What began as a small initiative has now grown into a nationwide movement advocating for gender inclusion and climate action.

What achievements or milestones are you most proud of?

Over the years, Dosy Bikes has achieved remarkable impact:

  • 8,000 women trained in scooter and bicycle riding.
  • 3,000+ green jobs created for female instructors and delivery workers.
  • 600 tonnes of CO? emissions avoided annually through electric scooter adoption (at 10% uptake).
  • Launched the first women-only scooter ride-hailing service in the MENA region.
  • Expanded into an e-commerce platform for scooters, bicycles, spare parts, and accessories.
  • Gained international recognition for breaking barriers in gender, mobility, and climate innovation.

Our vision is to build Africa’s first women-led e-mobility network, combining empowerment, climate action, and sustainable cities.

What inspired you to start this journey?

It started with a shared desire to make cities more inclusive and sustainable while giving women the freedom to move safely and independently. In Egypt, mobility remains one of the biggest barriers to women’s participation in the workforce. Dosy Bikes was born to challenge that reality—one woman, one ride at a time.

Can you share one belief or quote that guides you?

“Empowerment begins when women move freely—physically, economically, and socially.”

This belief has guided my work and continues to inspire everything we do at Dosy Bikes.

What advice would you give to young women who want to create impact?

Believe in the power of your vision, no matter how unconventional it seems. Change doesn’t happen overnight, but every small step matters. Collaborate, stay curious, and let purpose drive you—because purpose sustains what passion starts.

What’s next for you and Dosy Bikes?

We’re currently working to scale our impact beyond Egypt, forming partnerships that will help expand Dosy Bikes’ model across Africa. Our next focus is on building Africa’s first women-led e-mobility network, integrating technology, sustainability, and gender equality to shape the future of mobility.
